7 Questions with Emily Moorhead

Emily Moorhead joined Henry Ford Macomb Hospital as the new president in July 2025. She brings more than two decades of healthcare leadership experience to the role, serving most recently as the president and chief operating offi cer of Henry Ford Jackson Hospital. We got a chance to catch up with Moorhead recently to learn more about her and her vision for the hospital.

What do you enjoy most about working at Henry Ford Health?
The culture! I love that we are so focused on our people. Our staff is the key to our success. I love that Henry Ford Health fosters an environment where we take care of not only our patients, but each other.

What excites you about your new role at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital?
I’m thrilled to help Henry Ford Macomb grow to meet the needs of our community. We’re already leaders in advanced cardiac care, minimally invasive surgery, and cutting-edge cancer treatments. Our neurosurgery program and new Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center deliver outcomes that rival the best in the nation, and our partnership with the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab brings top-tier rehabilitation close to home. There’s so much to celebrate, and I look forward to expanding the services our patients need—right when and where they need them most.

What do you see as some of the biggest challenges in healthcare?
Like many health systems across the country, we are challenged to recruit and retain certain staff roles and positions, from front line workers to specialty physicians. While this can impact appointment availability in some areas, our strategy is to actively expand regional opportunities, using virtual care options, and optimize our scheduling processes to ensure patients continue to receive the care they need when they need it.

What are your ties to the Macomb community?
My uncle Ernie started Ernie’s Kings Mill, (now just Ernie’s). My cousins still run the business today. It’s our go-to location for family gatherings, including my own wedding reception.

What is your educational background?
I earned a chemistry degree from Michigan State University and an MBA specializing in Strategy and Organizational Development from
the University of Michigan.

Tell us about your professional passion?
My passion is grounded in advancing prevention and promoting well-being for individuals at every stage of life. At Henry Ford Macomb, we have an incredible opportunity to influence the health of our community—not only through exceptional clinical care, but by fostering a culture of wellness that supports people in living their healthiest lives.

Can you share the best piece of leadership advice you’ve ever received?
Early in my career, I had the privilege of working with Barbara Rossmann, former president of Henry Ford Macomb. Much of my leadership style is rooted in her mentorship. She taught me the importance of leading with purpose and humility, emphasizing that true leadership lies in empowering others—making people feel valued, inspired, and part of something bigger than themselves, while giving them the confidence and support to grow and succeed.
